A Narrow Escape
Bronze · Created January 2012
1/8th life-size bronze. A true Nebraska story that took place on the southside of the Platte River about 8 miles west of Grand Island Nebraska in the year of 1864. During this time period and in this area of Nebraska and west the Native Americans were trying to maintain there way of life and preserve there hunting grounds. The Sioux and Cheyenne tribes combined forces to raid properties along the Platte River to force the settlers out. These two brothers were out putting up hay with there dad when a war party descended on them at almost sunset as they were trying to get back to there homestead..... They were hit by 4 arrows one of which went through 15 year old Nathaniel Martins chest and into his 12 year old brother Robert Martins back actually pinning them together. They both lived and I have written a 60 page short story of the whole incident.
